The image on the left is an image by Platon, a Greek British photographer who takes black and white photos of celebrities and other people of interest. The image on the left is a portrait of Matt Damon wearing a trench coat. This image is really good because of the big contrasts between max white and max black. Max black can be found in the image in the actor's hair and the coat, while max white can be seen in the background and the actor's face. The image is also really good because of the use of lighting, being on the face of the actor and the use of foreshortening with a worms eye view, with the bottom of Damon's body being closer to the camera than his face. The image on the right is a black and white self portrait of myself, in which contrasts between black and white while present in the image are not as good as Platon's because of my poor lighting and need for better angles.

The image on the left is an image of Lynn Goldsmith's original image of Prince and to the right of it is Andy Warhol's image of Prince. Goldsmith sued the Warhol foundation for this image because of copyright infringement. I think that Goldsmith should have (she did) win the court case because Warhol's image is too closely similar to Goldsmith's and did not change the original image enough. However, the Warhol foundation argued that the image was under fair use and was a public image. The image on the right is an image by myself and is a self portrait. My image is not as good as Goldsmith's because of the poor composition. While Goldsmith's had a flat white background nd really good front lighting, my image did not and left an awkward shadow on my face and part of the wall showing in the background.
The image on the right is a BVH entry to the SW DMS in the nature category. It is an image of a barren tree among lots of green weeds, bushes and trees. The image really makes the bare tree stand out as the focal point because of how much the live plants are juxtaposed against it. That and the contrast between the greens with the darker grey of the sky behind it, make the photo stand out that much more. The image on the right is an image by myself of waves crashing along a cliff. The reason why my image stands out is the contrast between the white foam of the sea with the dark rocks. That and the way that there are different textures present among my photo. But mine could use more work in having better composition with the wave shape or even showing more cliff.
The image on the left is a BVHS entry to the 2023 SW DMS for the action category. The image is really good because of the focus on the person shooting the basketball. The composition and the timing of the shot is really good because the person is clearly the focal point while they are in the middle of the jump shot. The image on the right is an image by myself in which a young boy is in the middle of throwing frisbee. Since my image is in black and white, the image is good because of the contrasts between max white in the trees and hair of the little boy while max white is seen in the background of the image.
The photo on the left is one of BVHS SW DMS entries, it is a series of a vacation home on a lake. The images show the various wide shots of the landscape of the environment. And the images are really good not just for their composition and use of empty and filled space, but because of the amount of color in all of the images. The image on the right is an image by myself which is a series of numerous flowers, my image like the SW DMS entry is good because of the variety of colors that are in the image.
The photo on the right is an award winning image for the SW DMS 2023 cycle, the image by Averie Acosta shows a lit match that was put out by being placed under a faucet. The image is so amazing because of the different values of white and black present in the image. Another thing that makes the image so good is the way that the light reflects off of the water and the shiny faucet. The image on the left is a black and white image of my own that shows an origami swan looking at an image of an actual swan. The image is good because of the big contrasts between max white present on the origami swan and the background of the image.
The image on the left is a submission into the SW DMS this year, and its category that it is entered into is color. The image uses a variety of techniques to become such a good photo, these being the various colors and hues present in the different fruits in the photo. But the photo stands out because of the shapes and the repetition that are in the photo between the boxes of fruit. The image on the right is an image by myself that I consider to be one of my better color photos, this is because of the various values of pink, purple and green that are in the photo, and the use of empty and filled space.
The image on the right is an image by Henrik Knudsen, it is a wideshot of a man cleaning a ballroom. The image is really good because of the composition of the photo in combination with the light. Knudson uses the empty space of the ballroom to really emphasize the man cleaning, as the audience's eyes are drawn there. The image on the left is an image by me, it also utilizes empty space to emphasize the focal point of the image being the observation deck.
The image on the left is a photo by Kait Robinson, her photo is a portrait of a woman in purple with a background of a city. The image is really good because of the contrasts of the dark and vivid purple with the lighter greys and whites of the background. The focus on the image is also really good. The image on the right is one of my own of a model in grey covering his face while laying on grass. Like Robinson's, my image contrasts very different colors together.
The image on the left is an image by Paola Castillo, a winner of the SW 2022 Contest cycle. The image on the right is an image of my own. Although these two images are portraits, the image on the left has so much more going for it. An example of why it is so great is because of the juxtaposition of the model's face with the newspapers. The image on the right is a self portrait which does use max white and max black although it does not juxtapose anything.
